GIFT

A box adorned with electric colors

Appears in the sand

And then in my hand  

Slowly I peel back its satin wrap

Held together with a thin gold strap

Glistening as it touches my eyes

This cobalt colored box

Screams for my fingers to pull at its ties

And as I do

He kisses my cheeks and embraces my waist

Gently locking my hands to ensure not a sliver of haste

I return his kiss

Directly on his lips

I untie the gold strap

That’s attached to a flap 

Clasping my hands together in pure delight

I inexplicably marvel at the rays of light

Escaping from this box

I pause for a moment

Captured by such a paradox

Knowing this is more than a gift

I graciously bow down to this inner shift

It’s been often said to me

Never question a gift

Just receive and believe

Allowing your mind to be free

So I did

Could this be my new life?

A life as bright as any satellite

In all its magnificence

My dreams unfold

Daring my eyes to behold

Lifting me to heights

I could not control

Realigning my attitude and massaging my soul

Saturating my eyes with supreme gratitude

I smell your breath as you cajole…

Me into opening this regal box

With a tremendous bow

A box containing a ticket and a key

With a linen note enclosed saying “go with the flow”

This precious gift has permanently caused

A shift in me

A gift that has given me a purpose

I couldn’t see

Standing in this sand with gift in hand

My eyes casually follow a butterfly about to land

Thinking aloud to myself

What a wonderful life

A gift that has eased my pain

And ushered me into the light
